As Unitarian Universalists, we look to religious education to instill in our children a sense of UU identity, a propensity for spiritual exploration, and a desire to be agents for good in personal life and in the world. Through structured learning experiences every Sunday, children gain familiarity with our UU principles and history while being simultaneously encouraged to become their own independent spiritual seekers. This year we have been using the UUA published curriculum “World of Wonder” from Tapestry of Faith as the basis of a year-long exploration of the 7th principle. Sessions involve weekly chalice lightings, story telling, activities that play to a variety of learning styles (song, dance, games, role playing, crafts, etc.), and opportunities to put new learnings into practice, such as group projects and community events.
